GPL are ambitious bespoke contract manufacturers and packers with some 40+ years’ experience in producing blended liquids, powders and granules for multiple sectors, in particular the agriculture and horticulture chemical industries.
They pride themselves on being able to take a germ of an idea and develop, formulate, make, pack and ship it.
Despite the challenges that the last two years have thrown at us all, GPL has continued operating throughout and gone beyond just surviving to thrive. They have continued to attract and retain new customers and have invested some £130,000 in the last 18 months to improve productivity, quality and operator safety.
A key part of their development, contributing to their ongoing success, has been their investment in real-time manufacturing software. Designed and supplied by Grotech Data Solutions, their software system combines tablet, WIFI and Cloud technology to enable GPL managers and operators alike to see exactly what is happening, and why, on the factory floor, allowing them to take immediate action, if required, to keep production on track.
All software management systems designed by GDS are comprised of modules enabling our customers to purchase only those they need while also giving the flexibility of being able to add to their system as their business grows and develops.
In GPL’s case, we have supplied technology that enables output rate to be calculated, production line downtime and stoppages to be recorded and monitored and a Bill of Materials module enabling components to be identified, ordered and transferred to the line in good time to keep production flowing. The real-time reporting element of this module means that as orders are complete, customers can be kept up to date with accurate information on goods available for despatch.
Since introducing this new digital way of working, Overall Equipment Efficiency at GPL has shown a 26% improvement, contributing to their year on year 25% increase in turnover for the last three years.
